Oxford Biosensors had a technology using electrodes to measure groups of parameters to expose disease specific aspects from a single drop of Blood. Maddison was asked to take this technology from concept through to production specification.
Challenges and Development
To make the system cost effective we had to design a solution in which the electrodes were disposable. The handheld unit had to contain the sensing platform for multiple parameters in a compact, portable unit. Maddison created a solution with a low cost disposable electrode cartridge for the blood sample which slots into the hand held unit and avoids any contamination. The results were displayed on the screen within seconds and we incorporated an off the shelf printer into the docking station to provide a written result. A re-chargeable, battery powered hand held reader was designed, prototyped and tested, followed by the creation of the production drawing pack for the whole system
