To develop a touch screen graphical user interface (GUI) for a new electric vehicle to both showcase the technology but also serve as a usable solution to test the vehicles and gather data. The drive technology involves a unique, in-wheel electric drive system that allows OEMs to create hybrid vehicles in substantially reduced timescales.
After understanding the various requirements, we created a wire-frame design which imparted to the user an understanding of the relationship between driving style and range. Other display elements indicated which drive wheels were active or had developed faults and clarified the control of optional driving modes. We then created three alternative ‘look and feel’ styles and worked with the customer to select the preferred design direction to be implemented as a full touchscreen user interface. To permit analysis of data, we developed separate data and histogram screens that could be easily accessed from the main screen with a single touch.
